I REALLY liked this video! I love almost all your videos, even the humor is spot on. I found particular fuzzy and energetic feeling watching this video though, because I saw both scenarios and made my guess that it would be for ease of play to have the type and sub-type be counted as it's entering. I didn't get every part 100% correct. I got most of it though. I know MTG has changed alot. The stack was always in (most) my friends' play. I do remember playing with damage on the stack, and coming back to find it absent. So I didn't mentally articulate that the ruling was changed, but knew there was a feeling that it would enter untapped, but that bloodmoon really doesn't affect (or so I thought) a land as its entering. I especially appreciated the warning to just go with the gut answer. I feel I would have guessed, and it is truly always just that for me, a guess, but I feel I would have made the same "judgement" that the Hallowed Fountain would indeed enter as a mountain would. Basic mountain I mean.

What if they are both entering the battlefield at the same time? If I cast an Eerie Ultimatum and return a Blood Moon and a Hallowed Fountain from my graveyard to the battlefield, the continuous effect from Blood Moon wouldn’t already be in place, right? So would that change the outcome?

Does this mean that the game only sees a Mountain entering the battlefield? Does my Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle trigger when I play the Hallowed Fountain?

A fun follow up question: You play a Cavern of Souls under Blood Moon, so it enters without a chosen type. You Disenchant the Blood Moon. Can you use your Cavern to cast Nameless Race with the "can't be countered" clause?

When you do a reupload, could you put a small explanation in the video description why this was necessary so we don't have to wonder?

I had this interaction at a PPTQ probably around 2015 when I was like 14, and I believe this is when the rule was still the reverse. I was very disappointed that I had to pay 2 life for my mountain. Does anyone know when the ruling was changed?

What’s the case that this shouldn’t work the same as resolving spells and abilities? Have the object’s controller decide the order they’re applied (with the exception of control-changing and copy effects, of course).

I'm curious when exactly this ruling was changed? I had this come up in a commander game a couple weeks ago and everything online pointed to the old ruling

Somewhat convoluted situation here - was wondering if you could give me a ruling. I have Jetfire, Air Guardian (Face Down), Thousand Moon Smithy (Face Up) and Saheeli, Sublime Artificer in play. I use Saheeli's ability to turn Thousand Moon Smithy into a copy of Jetfire and sacrifice the original Jetfire to the legend rule. Then I activate the ability of Jetfire to convert it. a) When it converts, is it a Jetfire, Ingenious Scientist? b) Does it change back to a Barracks of the Thousand at end of turn?

If I understand it correctly, this is why, e.g., Rhythm of the Wild can give the benefits of Riot (as opposed to just the ability) to, e.g., a Sol Ring while March of the Machines is in play, or a Rusted Relic with Metalcraft?

what about amulet of vigor + fabled passage controlling 4+ lands? passage says, that land enters tapped and then untaps. does that mean that it gets untapped 2 times?

Wizards had to retroactively bend the game's rules into knots to make Blood Moon work and they've bee paying for it ever since

I searched my heart and my heart said that Blood Moon should have no effect on the replacement effect because Blood Moon says nothing about removing abilities and (except for lands) no other type changing effects remove abilities. My brain said that Layer 4 land effects have arbitrary additional rules, but you didn't ask about that :P.

Glad you pulled this one out of the vault! I remember being confused several times before and after the change. At first, it was because my intuition told me mountains enter untapped, but I learned the interaction. After I took a break, the rules changed and I had to relearn the interaction. Now I also have a better understanding of the CR, so I can appreciate the more technical explanation now!

This is the classic Judge Program exam question, so glad to see that it's being featured here. Remember this one with the old ruling and how much it didn't make sense. Glad it got changed. Incidentally, when was it changed? Would love to see a video on rulings that changed in the last 10 years.

I'm of the belief the old rule was correct. Special rules that ignore the English language are stupid.

The numbering on this video nearly made me skip it. I assumed it was from years ago, and RUclips was just having a hiccup by letting me know about it.

I remember the first time someone wiped creatures of the board in my games seeing a bunch of creatures on my field that had triggers for other creatures dying. I asked do these triggers "see eachother". My friends told me usually the answer to that question in magic is yes. I thought that was great and intuitive.

Would you be willing to do a video on chaos warping a commander? I've seen many places that say it works one way or another and would love a breakdown. When do you get the opportunity to choose to put the commander into the command zone? Are there any strange interactions when you choose to do so? Thanks!

isn't this the same as with the theros gods? that are only creatures when you have enough devotion? They will not count as a creature entering the battlefield unless you have enough devotion, but they still count as a creature spell for things like Beast Whisperer since on the stack the spell is still a creature enchantment.. Or am i getting this all backwards?

That raises a (hopefully not stupid) question - Mystic Reflection creates a replacement effect for creatures entering the battlefield - but what if the next creature to enter is a Clever Impersonator and it's entering as a copy of a non-creature permanent? Does that part even matter, or does the caster of Clever Impersonator simply get to choose their own ETB-replacement-effect instead of the Mystic Reflection-replacement?

I got this one right for the wrong reason. My argument was going to be "during the time you're choosing to pay 2 life, Blood Moon turns the source ability into a Mountain, and since the source of the ability no longer exists, you can choose not to pay the 2 life, and then Hallowed Fountain enters as a Mountain - which doesn't have the replacement effect." Interestingly, though, the argument accidentally creates the case of "you can choose to near-pointlessly pay 2 life."

how about dress down and talion the kindly lord? do you choose a number that will go into effect when dress down leaves?

The way the old rules worked made way more intuitive sense to me personally. The card says "As this comes into play, blahblahblah," so it felt intuitive that blood moon wouldnt do anything until the card was actually in play, meaning everything that happens as it comes into play still acts normally. The new way makes it feel like Blood Moon applies to cards while they're still in my hand.

Or........ it's a triggered ability.

I guessed the old ruling with the exact same reasoning ("as it enters" applys before Bloodmoon affects the land). Kinda bummed I got this one wrong

22:28 How long ago was _your day_? The first +/- is from Antiquities, with Legends introducing a few more, both in 1994. With new ones were released every year since then with exception of 2011. And even 2011 had a reprint of Skullclamp.

i got this one wrong because i thought suspend said "cast", however, i wasn't confident and looked up the relevant rule in the CR before unpausing. with that information, i changed my ruling and was right. so even though i was wrong initially, i'm glad that i knew to double check, and what exactly i'd be checking for. personally i think "knowing exactly what to look for to make sure that you're right" is a more important skill than even being right in the first place, so i'm happy with this. :3

This is just reinforcing my belief that in a sane world Nadu's ability would be worded so it was its ability alone and it triggered and had a twice a turn trigger limit because that is less game breaking and nonsensically and unnecessarily complex that Nadu having an ability that gives all your creatures its own individual ability with individual twice a turn triggering limits.....but daddy Hasbro told WotC they needed to push the limits to sell packs, game balance or rules coherence be damned. It's so abundantly clear the ability as printed is so absurd and broken it should be unprintable. It's a Jitte level 'mistake' that seems too obvious to be a mistake. This isn't like Hogak where you could forgive them for not seeing it coming. They knew exactly what they were doing with Nadu, and that they shouldn't, and they did it anyway.

I have one for you, it involves Breaker of Creation and Kathril, Aspect Warper. Now Kathril has a ruling that reads "If cards in your graveyard have multiple hexproof abilities (such as hexproof, hexproof from white, and hexproof from black), a counter of each variant kind will be put onto a creature" Does Breaker of Creation's "Hexproof from all colours" count as 5 different versions of Hexproof or just one?
